The NHAA 2023 Naturopathic Symposium is fast approaching, and I am fortunate to be a facilitator for two workshops, and also a coauthor on two research posters from Torrens Uni students and alumni.
For the first workshop, Associate Professor Matthew Leach and I will be facilitating a discussion on the benefits and obstacles of designing and running collaborative clinical trials in herbal and naturopathic medicine. We will look at the value of such trials, as well as their limitations, and some of the issues researchers need to consider, engaging the audience in problem-based scenarios and discussions. We will also share some of the insights we have developed through our collaborative trial examining the efficacy and safety of olive leaf extract for glycaemic control in Type 2 diabetics (ESOLED).
The second workshop will be hosted by Dr Susan Arentz – the Editor of the Australian Journal of Herbal & Naturopathic Medicine – and will explore the journal mentoring program. Participants will gain insights into the value of publishing in journals such as the AJHNM, and learn that there are fewer barriers to publication than many clinicians may think, as well as support systems for those wishing to write and publish.
I’m looking forward to an awesome weekend of learning, networking, and catching up with friends and colleagues. If you haven’t booked your ticket, now is the time. And don’t forget to book a ticket for the NHAA Awards Gala Dinner too – they are always fun!
